Kevin Blechdom!!!

The High Seas (+ Cheese on Toast) is presenting Kevin Blechdom!!!! So I got to do the poster for it, it was a really fun one to do, put it all together on photoshop. Thank god there are so many ridiculous cat photos on the internet!
I'm super excited about the show, Kevin Blechdom is one of my favourites and last time she played it was stunning, the guts! the nudity!
There's a good sample album of hers from a radio interview on PBSfm which is available on the free music archive here.

Stamp design

Here's a drawing for a stamp for our brown paper bags at The High Seas, hopefully it won't be too complicated/impossible/expensive to make...

Some Drawings

These drawings were in Draw III, the first show at The High Seas. The top two are a purplish/black ink I got in Berlin on watercolour paper. The bottom one is indian ink and an old sienna ink that I found in the inorganic collection.
More images of the show can be seen here http://blog.thehighseas.co.nz/2009/09/draw-iii.html

Le High Seas

Last night was the opening of Draw III and the first time The High Seas had opened its doors to the public and was a great success! We have another blerg for that http://www.thehighseas.co.nz/blog/ so I won't go on about it here but the positive responce we had was very exciting (and relieving!). Phew all our hard slog was not for nuthink. Pictures of works in the show to come soon.....

Wild Emily

This is a sketch I did at my weekly drawing group of Emily with some embellishments.

Some photoshop stuffs

Sometimes I just like to play around drawing stuff in photoshop. I like the naivety and shonkiness of the results.

This last image was a thank you card for a wireless mouse.

Zombie Résumé

These images were for a two layer screenprint I made for a zombie themed exhibition at Cross Street studios. The piece is called Zombie Résumé and grew out of an idea I had for a comic about an old man who uses zombies to run errands and carry out menial tasks for him. I thought the image of a zombie carrying things on his outstretched arms was kinda funny so wanted to keep that. I wanted to do a hobbies section (bowling and disemboweling) but ran out of space. I'll put up a pic of the finished print when I get around to taking a photo of it.

I have excellent customer service skills.

I have a high standard of personal grooming.

I am a team player and get on well with my co-workers.

I am also very good at carrying things.

I've been pretty busy this last month with organizing stuff for The High Seas, a new gallery/venue/bookshop/record shop of which I am co-director. Here are some posters I did for the first two events happening there.

Fly on decks

Here's a wee sketch for a project I'm working on. Its an epic poem about a spider captain and his crew of flies, fleas and moths.

Petro Sleeping

Here's a little ink sketch from my sketchbook for the project I'm working on with my sister. The ink is a nice purplish black I found in Berlin, its my favourite at the moment. I may have to get an international agent to send me some more..

El Lagarto

For ages I've been meaning to make a moneybox so on Sunday I finally sat down with some cardboard, selotape, glue, paper, a skewer, a thread spindle, spray adhesive, fleece, felt, weird velour from Thailand, tie dyed cotton, thread, needles and my trusty sewing machine and started work on this fellah. I have a bit of an alligator obsession at the moment. He's a bit wrinklier that what I would of liked, but given my measuring technique mostly relies upon estimating distances with my fingers its not too surprising.

He loves to chow down on currency and he's not fussy, he happily devoured pennies and pounds, australian dollars, a couple of thai bahts, some dryer tokens for the laundromat, obsolete nz currency as well as current cash too.

Not only that but he has a handy drawstring sphincter.

National Drawing Awards

I just got my drawing for the National Drawing Award 2008 back a few days ago. I did it in Berlin & sent it over in October last year. Its nice to be reunited though I just gave it away as a birthday present, its still in the house though. There's a wee cropped likeness of my house in the drawing, the one with the pyramid on the roof and the palm tree outside.
We run on pyramid power!!
Click on it to see it properly, not all pokey and small.

Who called me an egg?

Thanks for the patches Sarah!!!!!

Other things I have been up to.

I had read about using bleach to make images on tee shirts on instructables*, they tell you to use things you've never heard of, like discharge paste and freezer paper but not having those things I just used paper and double sided tape for the stencil and a 50-50 bleach water mix. It turned out a good colour but the edges bled quite a bit so I went over the details with my trusty fabric marker.

Poster for a gig.

I did this a couple of weeks ago for Nigel. Hurray for masking fluid! The water bothers me a bit, could of done it better but i'm quite fond of the image, might do some more similar in the future.
P.S. Come to the gig if you be in Ak.
